Autodesk "Experience It Before It's Real" Virtual Event On June 3 from 10am EDT – 6pm EDT, Autodesk will host the Autodesk Experience Virtual Event, their first online virtual event. The purpose of this event is to bring all of the information that Autodesk shares with customers on the Autodesk Experience Tour to everyone outside of the tour cities in the U.S. and Canada. This event supports sustainable practices and is helping to build a greener world since attendees will have the opportunity to discover the immediate impact Autodesk 2009 software will have on their industry and their business, without ever having to leave the office! There will be 15 industry conference sessions at the virtual event. Each session includes live (text) Q&A. For AEC specifically, the following sessions will be offered:
There will also be an on-line exhibit hall where you can stop by booths to chat with Autodesk representatives, download information from the information kiosk, and take an online survey where respondents will then be entered for a chance to win a 16GB iPod touch device. There will be 14 booths at the virtual event, 12 Autodesk booths, and 2 for HP, the event sponsor. AEC will have one booth. Free Download of Software Extensions and New Features Effective March 28, Autodesk® Subscription members holding contracts for qualifying products, as part of their benefits, can download the following new feature releases listed below. New feature releases include e-Learning and product downloads available exclusively for members.
Request Media for Previous Versions Effective April 7, 2008, Subscription customers may use previous versions up to three releases back from the 2009 product release up to the total number of licenses of the product currently under Subscription. Subscription customers who do not have the previous version of the software may request eligible media through Subscription Center.
Access to the Autodesk Knowledgebase The Autodesk Knowledgebase enables a unified search of more than two million articles (technical solutions, discussion forums, data, downloads, learning resources, and product help files) accessed through new, enhanced search and content administration tools. The Autodesk Knowledgebase can be accessed via Subscription Center, and within certain 2009 products. Key features include premium segmented content, personalized search experience, quick access to hot issues and new solutions, full text search, and “Did you mean?” keyword suggestions. The Subscription Center offers an Advanced Search User Interface, as well as RSS Feeds and the Autodesk Solution Toolbar, available exclusively for subscription customers through Subscription Center. Tax Stimulus - Incentives for Software Purchase On Monday, February 11, 2008, President Bush signed the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 which includes depreciation provisions for businesses buying equipment and computer software and placing it into service in 2008. This tax relief provides an incentive for businesses to make investments this year. Generally a trade or business must recover the cost of property over a predetermined period of years. The depreciation provisions under the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008 allows a trade or business to depreciate an additional 50% of the cost of an asset acquired and placed into service in 2008 in that year with the remaining basis depreciated in accordance with the statutorily prescribed recovery period. The types of property eligible for the bonus depreciation is purchased computer software which is generally defined as any program designed to cause a computer to perform a desired function. As such, the purchase of Autodesk software should generally qualify for this incremental tax benefit.
