Entry Level Fire Sprinkler Designer/CAD Operator - Walschon Fire Protection, Inc.

Established Fire Protection Company seeks an individual to join our design team. Walschon Fire Protection, Inc. has been in business for over 29 years, and we are looking to expand our team. We are seeking a full-time, entry-level CAD operator who is self-motivated, learns quickly, and is team oriented. The individual should possess computer skills, have some knowledge of construction, and be able to pass a drug screening or background check, if one is required.

The position entails working with the Project Manager, drafting/designing fire protection systems, and assembling construction packages for submittal to the Fire Marshal and/or General Contractor. The position also requires creating material fabrication lists, and working closely with General Contractors and other subcontractors to complete projects in a timely manner. The position may also require attending project meetings and job-site surveys; so you must own a vehicle and possess a valid driver's license with a clean driving record and auto insurance.

Walschon Fire Protection, Inc. offers medical and dental, 401K, vacation pay and *ESOP after a 90-day probationary period.

The position:

The CAD Technician/Design position is responsible for providing AutoCAD drafting support services to the engineering team.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans for the design of street, storm drain, sanitary sewer, public works, and other civil engineering tasks.

Civil Engineer - East Bay Regional Park District

SALARY: $7,640.75 - $8357.38 Monthly

THE POSITION:The District is seeking a Civil Engineer to join our team. The Civil Engineer reports directly to the Design Manager. The Design Manager is one of three unit managers within the Design and Construction Department ("DECO"). The other unit managers are the Construction Manager and the Capital Program Manager. DECO is the largest department within the Acquisition, Stewardship, and Development Division. DECO provides design, project management, construction management and inspection, and surveying services. DECO's mission is to deliver capital projects in an efficient and effective manner. The types of projects managed by DECO include landscape architectural, civil engineering, and architectural projects. Project examples include park renovations, new staging areas, new bridges (vehicular and pedestrian), landslide repairs, boat dock improvements, and new visitor centers.

In general, the Civil Engineer performs civil engineering work including design and the preparation of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for capital improvement and maintenance projects. The Civil Engineer's responsibilities include researching, analyzing, and developing solutions to engineering problems; directing the collection of and reviewing field data (surveys, geotechnical investigations, water quality analyses); preparing engineering calculations; and providing construction phase support in collaboration with the Construction Unit. The Civil Engineer may serve as design engineer, project engineer, and/or project manager. As a project manager, the Civil Engineer will be involved in preparing Requests for Qualifications (RFQ), conducting a qualifications-based consultant selection process, negotiating consultant contracts, and overseeing the work of consultants.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Serves as Project Manager for professional engineering work and acts as resident engineer on construction projects; designs, prepares contract drawings, engineering specifications and cost estimates for a variety of capital and maintenance projects. Administers construction contracts; researches, analyzes, and makes recommendations on solutions to engineering problems; obtains, reviews and directs the collection of field data (surveys, geotechnical investigations, water quality analysis); performs complex engineering design calculations for grading earthwork, utilities, pavement, hydrology, hydraulics, and structures; performs construction feasibility analysis.

OTHER FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES: Coordinates work of consultants, engineers, developers, contractors, and other departments with outside agencies. Makes field inspections of construction in progress; prepares project documents, correspondence, budget analyses and participates in grant application preparation and administration. Prepares, acquires, and administers regulatory and required permits and agreements with other agencies. Performs related duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university; and
  • Experience: Four years of civil engineering experience, two of which shall have been at a project management level.
  • License: Registration as a Professional Civil Engineer with the State of California.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Knowledge of civil engineering principles, materials, and techniques of engineering or construction; knowledge of engineering economics and calculations, including pavement design, hydrology, earthwork, hydraulics, structures, sewage treatment and disposal, water supply treatment and distribution; and cost estimating. REQUIREMENTS:

  • Proficiency in the use of AutoCAD Civil 3D add on (release 2017 or above)

  • Assist Field Construction Team as needed in submitting all payroll for project

Required / Preferred Skills

  • Strong computer skills and ability to adapt to new programs easily
  • Willingness to learn new things and adapt easily to changing procedures
  • Strong communication skills in both English, both written and verbal (bi-lingual Spanish preferred)
  • Understanding of how buildings are built and knowledge of how to read Blueprints
